The Rochester American Diabetes Association is looking for a record goal for its annual fundraiser—$1 million.
The organization said Thursday it plans to raise $1 million for its 2013 Tour de Cure cycling challenge. It is a goal that Executive Director Travis Heider said is well within reach.
“Based on our continually increasing participation in the Tour de Cure rides—as we expect to see more than 2,500 riders—we are thrilled to set this goal, which will place us among the top five events in the nation,” Heider said. “We are fortunate to have such a giving community as Rochester, and we could not have imagined this goal if it weren’t for our corporate partners, volunteers and the success of our Tour de Cure event as a whole.”
The organization raised $857,000 last year through the event, officials said.
The Rochester Tour de Cure presented by Sage Rutty & Co. Inc. is the largest cycling event in Rochester and the fifth largest Tour de Cure event in the country, officials noted.
The event is slated for June 2 at Monroe Community College. It is to feature six routes of different lengths for riders of all skill levels.
