A Netherlands-based energy consulting firm with U.S. headquarters in Massachusetts will move an energy storage testing operation to Eastman Business Park, officials announced Tuesday.

DNV Kema Energy & Sustainability will invest as much as $16 million, and get $6.9 million in funding from New York’s Battery and Energy Storage Technology Consortium, to move its lab in Pennsylvania to Building 308 in the business park, officials said.

DNV Kema will lease 17,000 square feet from Eastman Kodak Co. Construction work there is scheduled for completion this fall, with the $23 million Battery and Energy Storage Technology Testing and Commercialization Center anticipated to open in December.

“This collaboration (between DNV Kema and NY-BEST) will spur innovation in the development of critical energy storage technology, helping to improve reliability and resiliency in New York’s electric grid and creating good jobs in the Rochester area,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a statement.

The number of jobs that could come with the move was not disclosed.

The NY-BEST consortium is made up of 125 manufacturers, suppliers, universities, utilities and engineering firms. It was created in 2010 with a $25 million state grant designed to make New York a global leader in energy storage technology.

DNV Kema is a leader in business and technical consultancy, testing, inspections and certification, risk management and verification. It has 2,300 experts in 30 countries.
