FDA gives marketing OK for B&L lenses

Rochester Business Journal
October 3, 2013

The Food and Drug Administration has cleared Bausch & Lomb Inc.’s new frequent replacement silicone hydrogel contact lenses with MoistureSeal, officials of the eye-care company’s Canadian parent company announced Thursday.

The FDA clearance came through sooner than expected, Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. chairman and CEO Michael Pearson said.

The addition of MoistureSeal technology to the company’s silicone hydrogel lenses—portrayed by the company as the first significant breakthrough in the silicone hydrogel category—would give Bausch & Lomb’s contact lens business a significant boost, Pearson predicted.
