Boston mayor: Wegmans is coming

Rochester Business Journal
March 25, 2013

Boston media outlets, including the Boston Herald and Boston Globe, reported Monday the city’s mayor, Thomas Menino, has announced Wegmans Food Markets Inc. plans to open its first Boston location.

The speech was made in front of 500 Boston business leaders Monday afternoon. Menino said the store will be located in Boston’s Landmark Center near Fenway Park. Last year, it was reported CEO Danny Wegman, along with a Wegmans corporate team, was in Boston scouting several potential locations for a store.

Wegmans has been in the state of Massachusetts since 2011. The company has developments underway in the state in Chestnut Hill and Burlington.

Jo Natale, director of media relations for Wegmans, said discussions are underway for the proposed Boston Wegmans.

“We are very interested in a site in the Fenway neighborhood,” Natale said.  “Discussions with the developer are underway, and we anticipate that an acceptable agreement can be reached in the near future.”
