Excellus names vice president to newly created post

Rochester Business Journal

Excellus BlueCross BlueShield has named the head of its safety net programs as its first vice president of community health engagement, a newly created position aimed at increasing the insurer’s involvement in members’ health decisions.

Robert Thompson is charged with “reaching community residents with initiatives and information aimed at improving health and coordinating our company’s participation in the many collaborative partnerships in our region that help shape the direction of the community’s health status,” Excellus CEO Christopher Booth said.

“We want to be proactive in working with our neighbors to improve their health,” Booth added.

Thompson had served as Excellus’ vice president for safety net programs since 2010. He previously headed an Excellus affiliated Medicaid HMO, the Monroe Plan for Medical Care.
