Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection has named a longtime Eastman Kodak Co. executive to serve as its next president.

Augustin Melendez will be assuming the leadership role beginning March 11, Hillside Family of Agencies announced. Melendez joins Hillside after spending 13 years at Kodak, where he served as director of human resources and vice president as well as chief diversity and community affairs officer.

"Augie brings a unique set of values and experiences to Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection that will propel this national model to even greater success and prominence," said Dennis Richardson, president and CEO of Hillside Family of Agencies. “His highly successful career in the for-profit sector, coupled with his experience with and passion for Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection make Augie the ideal leader we have been searching for."

Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection works with high school students to keep them on track to graduation. After starting in Rochester, it has expanded to Buffalo, Syracuse and Prince George's County, Maryland.

Melendez, who served on Hillside Work-Scholarship’s board for six years, said he saw firsthand the impact the program had on the community.
“I am thrilled and proud to be part of such an innovative organization,” he said.  “My corporate leadership experience coupled with my knowledge and immense experience with Rochester city public schools, will allow me to continue to position Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection as a successful, nationally recognized program.”

The former president of Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection, Patricia Malgieri, left her post last year to take a position with the Rochester City School District.
