City extends deadline for downtown master plan

The city of Rochester has pushed back the response deadline for its downtown master plan by two weeks, to March 1, officials announced Monday.

More than 3,500 people have completed the five-minute survey, officials said.

“For nearly 200 years, downtown Rochester has been the center of our region, and it has seen many changes in that long history,” Mayor Thomas Richards said in a statement.

“Our vision is to bring a renewed energy to downtown that will help to reconnect people and bring more people to our center city. Updating the Center City Master Plan is part of this effort, and public input will help us lay out specific actions to realize this vision and, most importantly, to continue to inspire hope and confidence in downtown.”

Input from the survey and from public meetings will be included in the updated plan, which originally was drafted 10 years ago. The update will produce a blueprint for development and help the city seek state and federal funding for infrastructure projects, officials said.

The survey is available at www.cityofrochester.gov/centercity.
