Rochester Business Journal
January 4, 2013

The Rochester Regional Business Plan Contest is looking for businesses with a scalable business plan and high growth potential. The top company wins a $25,000 cash award.

Area for-profit startups and early-stage enterprises can register.

Workshops begin in February, and finalists will be determined and announced by the end of March. The winners are to be announced on April 18 at the 5th Annual Celebration of Entrepreneurship Luncheon.

To be eligible, companies must have their headquarters in Monroe, Genesee, Livingston, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming, or Yates counties; have less than $250,000 of outside cash investment; and less than $500,000 cumulative revenue, excluding research grants.

Students enrolled in a college or university within the region are eligible to enter.

The first place winner receives a $25,000 cash prize along with marketing and business incubation services. Second- and third-place winners receive smaller amounts of cash and marketing services. Runners-up receive marketing and business services.

Registration runs through Jan. 31. The application fee is $150 per company and applications can be completed at www.htr.org.

Entrepreneurs who want to learn more about business plans and investor presentations but who are not ready for a contest are invited to attend the four workshops on how to plan, write and present a business plan for $100.

Strong Arm Technologies Inc. won last year’s Rochester Regional Business Plan Contest.
