The Buffalo Bills and Rogers Media Inc. are taking a sabbatical from their annual National Football League game in Toronto to re-evaluate the series, officials announced Wednesday.
The Bills have played one game in Toronto each season since 2008, losing five of the six at the Rogers Centre in front of predominantly placid crowds.
After last season’s 34-31 overtime loss to Atlanta, team President and CEO Russell Brandon said he would do everything within his power to create a winning atmosphere for the franchise, including a review of the Toronto agreement.
“The Buffalo Bills and Rogers are committed to delivering a first-class NFL experience to Canadians, Brandon and Keith Pelley, president of Rogers Media, said in a joint statement posted on the Bills website. The statement also said all eight Bills home games will be played at Ralph Wilson Stadium this season.
“We will use this time to collectively evaluate opportunities and build on the foundation to enhance future games.”
The Bills have four games remaining on their second five-year contract agreement with Rogers Media.
The Bills and Rogers are committed to their partnership and have secured a robust sponsorship agreement for the coming season that will bring Canadians visibility and access to the Bills, the statement said.
The sponsorship includes ticketing, merchandising, media exposure, and a new Canada House near the Orchard Park stadium that will serve as the official pre-game Canadian tailgate zone for all Bills home games.
