Rochester-area colleges and universities rank among this year's U.S. News & World Report's list of America's Best Colleges.

The 2014 rankings are tabulated based on an array of criteria, including graduation rates, the school's reputation among peers and the rate of alumni giving to the institution.

On the national list of colleges, the University of Rochester scored the No. 32 spot while St. John Fisher College took the No. 142 spot.

This year's list marked the highest-ever ranking for SUNY College at Brockport, which jumped 14 spots in the Best Regional-Universities-North category to the No. 54 spot.

“It is an honor that our students, faculty, staff, and alumni have again been recognized for their extraordinary achievements by U.S. News & World Report,” said John Halstead, SUNY Brockport president. “This type of recognition tells the nation what we already know—that the entire Brockport community is completely committed to ensuring the success of our students and our graduates.”

SUNY College at Geneseo also was included in the regional rankings, scoring the No. 15 spot.  It was one of three public colleges in the top 20. Other schools in the northern region included Rochester Institute of Technology at No. 7, Nazareth College of Rochester at No. 27, Alfred University at No. 30 and Roberts Wesleyan College at No. 74.

Hobart and William Smith Colleges earned the No. 61 spot on the list of National Liberal Arts institutions, while Houghton College ranked No. 141.
