RF Communications equipment gets security certification

Rochester Business Journal

Harris Corp.’s Rochester-based RF Communications division has received a security certification for some of its equipment, which allows the company to field its radios for secure voice and data communications up through the top secret level of information assurance.

The multi-channel manpack radio is the first commercially developed radio to achieve the certification in anticipation of the U.S. Army’s Handheld, Manpack and Small-Form Factor tactical radio program, the company said.

RF Communications developed the device to exceed requirements of the HMS tactical radio program, providing advanced capabilities to all branches of the Department of Defense. The radio is capable of hosting all required U.S. government wideband and narrowband waveforms, including those required by Special Operations Command, it said.

The first radios will be delivered to the U.S. Navy this fall.
