Fairport Brewing gets farm brewery license

The Fairport Brewing Co. is among New York’s14 newly licensed farm breweries opened as a result of legislation passed in January, state officials said Wednesday.

The farm brewery license allows craft brewers using state products to operate similarly to New York’s farm wineries.

In addition, the number of microbreweries in New York has increased by 82 percent over three years, to 93 from 51 in early 2011.

Fairport Brewing opened in October 2012, with operations on Turk Hill Road in Perinton. It opened a retail location this past spring at 99 South Main St., the former location of a gas station.

“The state is committed to promoting New York’s exceptional food and beverage producers through our Taste New York initiative and investments in research and development to further grow the industry,” Cuomo said in a statement.

“Not only do these efforts benefit New York’s craft breweries, but they also help our agricultural sector to flourish. We want New Yorkers and visitors alike to buy local and keep coming back for more.”
