Harter, Secrest & Emery LLP has hired Bausch & Lomb Inc.’s top in-house trademark lawyer, the law said Thursday.

As the eye care company’s chief trademark counsel, Jon Webster had worldwide responsibility for Bausch & Lomb’s trademark and copyright portfolio and managed the firm’s false advertising, unfair competition and trade dress litigation.

He joins as a partner in the law firm’s intellectual property group.

Toronto-based Valeant Pharmaceuticals Inc. acquired Bausch & Lomb last month, making the Rochester firm into its eye-health unit. Valeant CEO Michael Pearson said then Valeant planned to trim some 400 local Bausch & Lomb jobs by November and headquarter its ophthalmic unit in New Jersey.
