Looking for cash? Skip cars in New York

Rochester Business Journal
August 11, 2014

Drivers in New York are thrifty when it comes to how much money they keep in their cars.

A new study by CouponCodesPro.com, a money-saving website, reports American drivers keep $2.4 billion in loose change floating around their cars. The average car has $21.48.

New York drivers, however, fall far below the national average, keeping $3.66 in their cars; California drivers leave $43.11 in their vehicles.

Some 88 percent of drivers acknowledged leaving loose change in their vehicles, and of those 47 percent said they kept change in the glove compartment, while 23 percent said in the ashtray.

The poll also found 72 percent of people leave money lying around at home, while 52 percent said they leave loose change at work. CouponCodesPro.com surveyed more than 3,500 people nationwide for the study.
