Natcore to make purchase to reduce costs

Scientists at Natcore Technology Inc. have identified a laser that they say will reduce energy and chemical costs, and plan to buy it for the research and development center in Rochester, company officials announced Monday.

The laser processing would replace the high-temperature diffusion furnace used in Natcore’s solar cell production, officials said.

The change would significantly reduce energy and chemical costs.
 
“We are reinventing the way that solar cells are made,” President and CEO Charles Provini said in a statement.

“We are streamlining the process by removing costly steps and by eliminating dangerous and expensive chemicals. … We are making it a low-temperature process.”
