Hart's Local Grocers to get SBA loan

Rochester’s next downtown grocer will get a $1.15 million loan from the Small Business Administration to help lock in financing for construction, officials announced Friday.

Hart’s Local Grocers plans to open in May on Winthrop Street in the East End.

The SBA funding, plus a $3 million private loan from Canandaigua National Bank & Trust Co., will help pay for renovations to a 20,000-square-foot former auto repair shop behind the Little Theatre.

The grocery owners needed the SBA’s approval for the government loan before receiving the private loan.

“This new grocer will bring a host of benefits to downtown Rochester,” Sen. Charles Schumer said.

“Besides providing convenient access to a healthy grocery for downtown residents, Hart’s Local Grocers will transform a critical, unused property in the East End (and) turn it into an operational business, which encourages commercial development in the area and generates economic activity and tax revenue for the city.”
