Frito-Lay to add electric vehicles to fleet

PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay North American division is adding 20 electric vehicles to its fleet in Upstate New York, including Rochester, company officials announced Thursday.

The company also is adding 20 charging stations for the vehicles, officials said.

The all-electric trucks will operate from upstate distribution centers in Rochester, Albany, Buffalo and New Paltz, officials said. The distribution centers will be equipped with charging stations.

“The introduction of these enhanced charging stations is a significant step forward for the Frito-Lay fleet as we continue on our sustainability journey,” said Michael O’Connell, senior director of fleet operations, in a statement.

“Not only will the stations benefit our operations in real-time, they also allow the state of New York to gain a better understanding of the vehicles, providing the critical information needed for the state to continue to invest in this alternative vehicle technology.”
