Carol Long has been named interim president at SUNY College at Geneseo, effective Oct. 1.
President Christopher Dahl announced this year his intention to retire effective June 30, 2014. He suggested the college’s board name Long as interim. Long has served as provost at SUNY Geneseo the past four years.
She will take over once Dahl leaves for a planned sabbatical.
“As provost since 2009, and prior to that as dean of the college of liberal arts at Willamette University in Oregon, Dr. Long is ideally suited to lead the Geneseo campus,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher following the board’s action this week. “We are delighted that she has agreed to serve as interim president and confident that SUNY Geneseo students, faculty, and staff will benefit from her continued leadership.”
Long has worked closely with Dahl and other senior administrators the past four years, SUNY Geneseo officials noted. She partnered with the college’s division of advancement to establish the Geneseo Ambassadors Program, which provides fellowships for innovative research and service projects for undergraduates.
She also is credited with expanding international travel opportunities for students and faculty, and establishing a new Curriculum Innovation Grants Program.
