CarGurus: Rochester affordable city for used cars

Rochester Business Journal

CarGurus, a national car shopping website, has released a study that ranks Rochester as the third most affordable city in which to buy a used car.

Miami came in first. Buffalo placed seventh on the list, while New York City ranked ninth.

To determine the rankings, CarGurus—operated by CarGurus LLC—took into account daily car listings, along with the range of makes, models and years. The company then compared each city’s average used car price to the national average. The study defined a city’s metro area as 50 miles around the city center.

“Prices can vary substantially from city to city, and depending on where you live, it may pay to look beyond your ZIP code to find greater savings,” said Langley Steinert, CEO of CarGurus, in a statement.

“At a minimum, understanding how an individual car listing compares to similar listings in the same market will help any car shopper make more informed, confident purchase decisions.”

CarGurus also released a study ranking the top 10 most expensive cities in which to buy a used car. No cities in New York made the top 10, which featured Jackson, Miss. at No. 1.
