Park Avenue’s Chester Cab Pizza will be closing its doors this month.
Owner Howard Nielsen made the announcement on Chester Cab’s website. Nielsen also owns Sticky Lips BBQ. He did not give a specific closing date, but said the location at 707 Park Ave. will close sometime in the coming month.
Nielsen moved from Chicago to Rochester and in 1982 opened Chester Cab in Irondequoit near Seabreeze Amusement Park. The pizzeria became known for its deep-dish pizza and unique toppings.
Nielsen said economic issues and new laws for businesses were the driving factors in his decision.
"I probably could keep Chester Cab Pizza going for a while more,” said Nielsen, in a statement. “But when I see the mandates that businesses will be required to comply with by 2014, I figure those would be the mandates that would break the camel's back. So why wait, my work is done. Why delay the inevitable?”
