Vuzix TDG changes name to Six15 Technologies

Vuzix TDG has changed its name to Six15 Technologies, the company said Monday.

Vuzix TDG came out of TDG Acquisition Co. LLC’s purchase of the Tactical Display Group from Henrietta-based Vuzix Corporation (TSX-V: VZX, OTC BB: VUZI), a seller of video eyewear, last June.

The $8.5 million acquisition was led by Thayer Bancroft Equity Partners, a private-equity firm based in Pittsburgh.

As part of the acquisition, Vuzix TDG took 16 Vuzix employees, mostly engineers, and set up shop in Henrietta offering the same video eyewear products and services to military and defense clients.

Rich Ryan, president of Six15 Technologies, said the name change represents the next step in the company’s transition.

“We are excited to launch our new brand as we expand our technology and the markets in which we operate,” he said. “With continued emphasis on the defense industry, we are rapidly expanding our offerings through broader integration of solutions to the needs of our defense customers.”

James Donnelly, who worked as director of defense sales for Vuzix, now serves as vice president of business development for Six15. Donnelly said Six15 has branched out beyond its military and defense offerings.

“While we take great pride in our military and defense operation, our offerings are growing and have applications in the industrial, medical and many other markets,” he said. “Our legacy name did not fully describe our company; we want to ensure that our image and name represent what we do.”

The company has a new logo and website at www.six-15.com. Donnelly said Six15’s headquarters remains on Summit Point in Henrietta.
