WXXI Public Broadcasting Council has been awarded $200,000 from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to help Rochester improve its educational standards.

The community service grant is designed to help city students from pre-K through college, officials announced Wednesday.

WXXI also has received a $10,000 grant from the Newman’s Own Foundation to increase philanthropic support for the station’s education initiatives, officials said.

“As an essential, lifelong public media resource, WXXI is dedicated to strengthening our community in its ability to solve the problem of the dropout crisis,” station President and CEO Norman Silverstein said in a statement.
