Leaders to discuss area's 'manufacturing community' designation

United States Assistant Secretary of Commerce Jay Williams will meet with Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren and area manufacturers Thursday to discuss manufacturing initiatives.

The group will meet at 8:15 a.m. at the Theatre on the Ridge to talk about the Rochester-Finger Lakes region’s recent designation as a “manufacturing community,” by the U.S. Department of Commerce under the Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership program. The designation offers selected communities preferential consideration for up to $1.3 billion in federal dollars.

Williams will be in town to share information about the program and its implications for the region, Warren’s office said.
