Rochester Business Journal
July 24, 2014

With 25,773 people on its payroll in the six-county area, the University of Rochester is the region's largest non-profit employer—and the No. 1 private-sector employer by a wide margin. UR also added more employees over the last year than any other company on the 2014 RBJ 75.

The No. 2 non-profit—and private-sector—employer on this year's list is Rochester Regional Health System, recently formed through the merger of Rochester General Health System and Unity Health System. The other top five non-profit employers are Rochester Institute of Technology, Lifetime Healthcare Cos. Inc. and YMCA of Greater Rochester.

Non-profits claim 28 spots on the 2014 list—and account for more than 50 percent of the RBJ 75's total employment of roughly 135,000.

Now in its 26th year, the RBJ 75 list annually ranks the region's largest private-sector employers: public, private and non-profit. All current RBJ subscribers will receive a copy of the

RBJ 75 supplement with the July 25 issue. To pre-order extra copies, go to the RBJ Newsstand.
