DSS acquires pair of patent portfolios

Rochester Business Journal

Document Security Systems Inc. announced Monday it acquired two patent portfolios for some $2.5 million that will launch the hardware and peripheral segments of the company.

The intellectual property portfolios were acquired from two different owners. Private investors secured a portion of the acquisition.

DSS’ products are used by corporations, financial institutions and governments. The security technology company protects websites, brand names, publications, identification documents, and financial instruments.

The portfolios encompass both semiconductor manufacturing and Bluetooth peripherals. The move allows the company to achieve greater diversification, officials say. DSS aims to make seven technology management investments by the end of the year.
